This is an open post for writers and anyone else who'd like to participate!

For our story, we'll be dabbling in various alternate universes, and I'm opening up this post for all of you who have suggestions or 'verses you'd like to see. Preferably, we'll be sticking with AUs within the OUATverse- could be a change in canon that made all the difference, could be an exploration of Emma and Regina in a different version of FTL. The comments here will be fair game for any writer who's strapped for ideas.

Thank you to all the people who volunteered for assorted positions last week!

Your continuity editors are [personal profile] snarkingturtle and [personal profile] damelola. Please refer to them as needed, within reason.

Our order for posting, with thanks to the valiant souls who offered to go among the first and last:

  1. Read more... )

Remember, you'll be expected to turn out one chapter between 2-5k (or more) within two weeks of when the baton is passed to you, preferably betaed already (though you will have time to do that later, if needed. Speed is really our first priority!). Depending on which fic we settle on, you might or might not be split into smaller groups to work on your section of plot together. More on that later!

So we now have our writers and you've looked through all the technical details, and now it's time to talk plot! We've got seven days to suggest and discuss any ideas you have in the comments, and here are two things to keep in mind:
  • Each chapter should ideally be a story in itself. We're each getting one opportunity to write and so we want a plot that allows for each writer to play within the 'verse without being caught up in transitional chapters or the like!
  • At the same time, we also want to have one coherent ongoing plot that allows for development so it doesn't read like a series of short stories.
So this can work in several ways.
  • We could rewrite a season. We have exactly as many writers as there are episodes, and we could each tackle one. (I'm wary of this option simply because there's the OUATVS and because I don't know about the rest of you, but I find episode rewrites kind of dull, especially when we have many stronger writers than the OUAT ones?)
  • We can settle on a theme with stronger individual chapter plots and a weaker overall plot. I suggested tropes before- it could be something like "some kind of magical trickster has come to town and keeps casting wacky spells," and then we go from there. (I've seen people do that way back when SQW did magical mishaps.) In that, the story would be very much about individual chapters and character/relationship development, but it's tricky because the latter sometimes gets lost in the process.
  • We can settle on one standard plot that we like and write to it- this is generally easy and straightforward, though you do need a more intricately organized outline from the start so you don't run out of plot along the way.
Please drop your suggestions in the comments and discuss them! Reply to each other and talk about what you want to write and what you think might work for a story like this. This post closes on May 2, and we'll poll for your favorite option of the ones suggested from May 3-5.

Oh, and I don't think we'll do a totally alternate universe this time around because many people aren't used to writing out of the 'verse. Anything that takes place within the OUAT universe, even if it's a complete deviation from canon, is fair game.

We're in! Signups are over, and we've got twenty-two, count 'em, twenty-two talented writers who have volunteered to lend their talents to a collaborative story, y'all. This means that we'll each likely only write one chapter of the fic so it doesn't become some kind of bloated monster, and coincidentally it'll be just as many chapters as each season is episodes.

I'm super excited and I hope you are too! Honestly, my main goal in this is that we have a supportive and fun group for writing, and the actual fic is secondary to it (though, of course, it's still a major priority).

I'd like to go through some of the more technical aspects of the round-robin first (there is a followup post here about plot and story):

the technical... )

Below, our very lovely, very talented writers! The ones who have also agreed to beta (without condition- almost everyone offered) will have a *** beside their entry. You can contact them within reason (e.g. do not expect someone to beta for you two hours before a final deadline!) and betas, please let me know if you're overwhelmed and I'll remove your asterisks. You can also use your own beta, but it might be easier to have someone who is familiar with the fic already.

I've organized you by a general beginning, middle, end of fic, depending on what you volunteered for, but I also need specific signups for the first writer and the last- or second, or second-to-last, or any other more specific choices. First come, first serve in comments for each one. Once this closes on May 2, I'll also organize you all in a final order, so please comment below if you have any needs.

Hiya! It's Mari. If you're here, that means that you followed my Twitter link or I not-so-gently nudged you in this direction. I know there was a lot of interest in the round-robin, so here's an official signup thread.

I moved this to Dreamwidth because honestly I don't think Tumblr is a super place for collaboration like we want to do? You don't have to make an account to comment (though you can if you want to right here!), just maybe put your name in the subject line of your comment or something if you're doing it as a guest so I can keep track of you. Ideally, you would all make accounts just because that means that you can also post questions and your chapters for the group as they're finished, but I don't want to make anyone make another social media account, so you can also just message me on Tumblr/Twitter and I'll post for you.

Aha and I thought that we could make polls here but apparently that costs money so here's a poll for you to choose your preferred method of organizing for this round robin. If there's a strong desire to move it somewhere else, I'll switch to Twitter or Tumblr or whatever. You can also follow this Twitter account to be alerted to new updates to this blog, or (if you have an account) hit that little alarm bell at the top/bottom of this entry and you can select to get an email every time the blog has a new entry.

Now the fun stuff! )
